🥔 QR Potato

Frequently Asked Questions

Why?

I built this tool for myself. I need a simple tool to produce, manage, and track QR Codes along with their related campaigns. Most existing tools require a paid plan to unlock tracking and management features. It's a nominal personal cost to share it with other folks. Enjoy.

Privacy?

QR Codes and their related data are public. For example review the following QR Code managed by QR Potato: example. Usernames, email address' and passwords are kept private. That said, please review my "no privacy, privacy policy".

Security?

All website communication is encrypted using SHA-256 with RSA Encryption. Passwords are stored using OpenBSD bcrypt() password hashing algorithm.

Tracking?

All codes are tracked using an HTTP redirect with a 302 (found) status code. The content embedded inside the QR Code will look something like this: https://qrpotato.com/r/026d7465-22c1-4759-9de7-e3ae3109b391.

When a user interacts with the QR Code, they will briefly hit the server before quickly redirecting to the target destination. I use this quick hit to the application server to track visits.
Tracking is simple and respectful of the end-user. I only track the date/time the QR Code interaction occured.historical performance chart

Bots?

I use a comprehensive list of datacenter IP address' to limit bot interaction with QR Potato. In theory this should prevent bots from padding interactions with our QR Codes. Datacenter IP's are managed via ipcat.

Pricing?

QR Potato is free.

I may charge or limit usage in the future if hosting becomes a burden.

Artificial Intelligence?

I will f*cking piledrive you if you mention AI again.

Potato?

QR Codes, like plain potatos are boring and tasteless. Marketing and health benefits are strongly correlated with how they are used and prepared.
